On Tuesday 8th October, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Climate Change (Climate APPG) and All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment (Environment APPG) hosted the first event as part of the Climate and Nature Leadership Programme 2024, Climate Science 101.

This meeting took place from 3:30pm-4:30pm in Portcullis House.

Against a backdrop of worsening climate impacts in the UK and across the globe, the lifetime of this parliament will be critical to ensure the UK is on track to meet its climate targets. This roundtable was an opportunity for MPs to meet with leading climate scientists, hear about the latest evidence on the causes and impacts of climate change, and discuss the UK’s progress in and responsibility for reducing global emissions.

Speakers included:

  • Jim Skea, Chair, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
  • Dr Friederike Otto, Senior Lecturer in Climate Science, Grantham Imperial
  • Professor Emily Shuckburgh, Director, Cambridge Zero
